Wine

A remarkable wine-growing area in southernmost France extends between the Mediterranean Sea and the foothills of the Pyrenees. Its 1800 hectares lie in the districts of Collioure, Port-Vendres, Banyuls, and Cerbère. From these grapes the A.O.C. wines (French for ”wine of controlled origin”) Banyuls and Collioure are produced. The wines are the result of hard labor; vintage is extremely difficult due to the steep slopes on which the vines grow. The wine-growers can be very proud of their work: a great deal of love and courage is needed to cultivate grapes on these hills where no machinery can be used. This very traditional form of vintage and the remarkable climate in the south of France create wines full of character and life.

Collioure A.O.C. Rouge

This red wine is also made of several types of vines (Grenache Noir, Carignan, Syrah, Mourvèdre and Cinsault) which grows on an area of 300 hectares. The grapes remain on the lees, resulting in the full-bodied taste and high tannin content of this wine, which is best served with fish.

Collioure A.O.C. Rosé

It is produced since 1991, is produced in nearly the same way as its "older brother," the Red Collioure A.O.C, although the rosé has a fruitier flavor

Collioure A.O.C. Blanc

Produced since March 2003 (Grenache and Macabeu malvoisie roussanne)

Banyuls A.O.C. Vin doux Naturel

is a naturally sweet and velvety wine with a surprisingly savory bouquet, made of different types of vines such as Grenache Noir, Gris, Blanc and Carignan. The addition of alcohol stops the fermentation process, and the Banyuls is then left to mature in oak casks
